About Us
Wirriga is a Dharug word for goanna- a monitor lizard. The name of our company is both a play on “monitor” and an embodiment of the aboriginal concept of “caring for country".
All 3 founders of Wirriga are all research scientists with a long history of successful projects, both in the public and private sector. They bring together more than 50 years of research experience in instrumentation, optics and data analysis. They formed Wirriga with a desire to use their expertise on a project with real-world impact.
Dr Maryanne Large (CEO) has a BSc and a PhD from Trinity College Dublin. She has worked in Ireland, France and Australia, both in the public sector and in industry, including at the University of Sydney and Canon’s Australian research facility (CiSRA). Her work has been highly awarded, including with the Australasian Science Prize (2005) and the Eureka Prize for ICT Innovation (2004).

He has an extensive research record in optics, data analytics and image processing, including at CSIRO, Mediaware and Canon’s Australian research facility (CiSRA).
